MIAMI GATOS
HISTORY:
Miami Gatos played one season (1972) in the North American Soccer League. Playing at the Miami-Dade Stadium, Gatos were Miami's first professional soccer club - the club previously operated as the Washington Darts franchise for five years. The team was coached by Salvator "Sal" DeRosa - best known for winning the 1970 North American Soccer League Championship with the Rochester Lancers. Miami Gatos finished fourth in the Southern Division, failing to make the playoffs. At the end of the year the club folded, relocated to a new stadium, and fielded a new team for the 1973 season as the Miami Toros.
